Two pictures from a trip last August with Brad Smucker and Adam Pratt. It was the first full day of a planned 60-mile trip arc from the Ansel Adams Wilderness up through the Yosemite High Country.

morning, Day 1: a full pack and light heart at dawn in Red's Meadow.

evening, day 1: the sharp granite of the Sierras above Shadow Lake, sun sinking behind

Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning
to find out that going to the mountain is going home; that wildness is
necessity.
–John Muir
