O God, you who created the heavens and the earth, whose kingdom rules over all, and whose works shine with wisdom;
Grant grace, wisdom, courage to leaders.
You made us to be a responsible people, stewards of your creation, attentive to you, ourselves, others, and the whole world.
You charged us with filling and flourishing, conserving and developing your world.
We pray for all who have responsibility for others – whether in government or home, business or education, spiritual or relational.
Let each one look to you and receive what is given him or her, humbling themselves before your mighty hand and casting their cares on you as you care for them.
In this time of collective crisis, prompt them to wisely use the authority you give to them for the sake of all people.
Make them far-sighted and accountable, and wean them off of the failure of nerve that goes in for the quick fixes.
Lead them to be more concerned with what is right, noble, wise, and good than their own careers or futures.
Help them bear the cross of vulnerability and suffering (often hidden from us).
Make them courageous, wholehearted, and selflessly devoted to the common good. That in them we might see a hint of your incarnate, faithful, love in Jesus Christ, who reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forevermore.
