When you are fully involved in a project or task or field, sometimes you get the feeling that you need to see it with new eyes. Sometimes a question is all it takes. Yesterday, Seth Godin wrote on his blog about “delivering on never:â€
I will never violate a confidence
I will never let you down
I will never be late for a meeting
There are lots of sorts of never you can deliver to a customer. You can’t deliver all of them, of course. Picking your never and sticking with it is a fabulous way to position yourself.
The question immediately struck me. What are my “I will nevers†for our student ministry? What is my most important one that I commit to delivering on? Beyond that, what should be our “I will nevers†for any of us who carry a burden for students and ministry to or with them?
Go ahead. Give it a try. Leave some “I will nevers.†Let’s start to see what we are doing in a new light. Better yet, let’s put it into practice.
